Curriculum
Our curriculum is designed to develop the family physician’s skills as leader and community servant, as well as those in acute and chronic disease management. Our novel “2×2” curriculum assures true immersion in the outpatient primary care experience.
Intern year is concentrated on inpatient rotations and the following years are more focused on outpatient medicine. The curriculum is formally evaluated by residents and faculty each year allowing for continued improvement of our residents’ educational experience. Learn more about other curricular highlights.
What is the 2×2 curriculum?
Traditionally, family medicine residents rotate through month-long rotations with several days of clinic each week. In our program, PGY2 and PGY3 residents instead spend two full weeks of each month in clinic and the other two weeks of the month on inpatient, subspecialty, or elective rotations without clinic time. This way, they are fully immersed in the educational experience with minimal interruptions for travel between clinical sites. Our PGY1 (intern) year follows the traditional curriculum, with one half- or full-day of clinic each week throughout the year.
